Pace routes numbered in the 1000's are "subscription" routes, arranged by various businesses to transport their employees to and from work.

Also listed are Pace paratransit or dial-a-ride systems, operated either by Pace or by the contract operators. Each of the six counties in the RTA area has one or more paratransit systems in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). And these paratransit vans can be only used by those certified by a doctor, as having difficulties in using conventional public transportation.

In addition, in certain suburbs and townships interested in subsidizing a higher level of paratransit services, dial-a-ride (DAR) systems are available, confined to smaller geographic areas. Some such systems are available to the general public, while other systems are only available to people with disabilities or senior citizens, with varying degrees of restrictions.

Many community dial-a-ride systems are operated directly by the suburbs or townships, and are not listed. Further information on Pace paratransit systems can be found at the Paratransit page at the official Pace Web site.

In 2006, Pace assumed responsibility for the ADA paratransit services within the city of Chicago, which until then had been coordinated by the CTA. Under CTA, paratransit riders had available either of three contract companies, which all served the entire CTA area. These companies were Art's Transportation, Cook-DuPage Transportation (CDT), and SCR Medical Transportation. Under Pace, these operations remained unchanged until 2008, when the city area was divided into three separate zones, each assigned one contract operator. The contractors assigned to the three zones, from south to north, were SCR, CDT, and MV Transportation, which already had paratransit contracts with Pace in various suburban areas.
