x13: Bus number 8713 was the last Pace bus to be numbered with 13 as the last digits. Pace has since stopped numbering new buses with 13 as the last digits, presumably for supersticious reasons.

Assigned Divisions - following abbreviations are used:
NS - North Shore (Evanston)
NW - Northwest (Des Plaines, former Nortran/United Motor Coach)
W - West (Melrose Park, former West Towns)
S - South (Markham, former South Suburban Safeway Lines)
SW - Southwest (Bridgeview, former Suburban Transit System)
H - Heritage (Joliet)
FV - Fox Valley (Aurora)
R - River (Elgin)
N - North (Waukegan)
HP - Village of Highland Park
K - Keeshin (Des Plaines/O'Hare, contract operator)
LL - Laidlaw (several locations, contract operator)

Division assignments are general and are subject to variation, and are based on observations and other sources.

All above buses are air conditioned. Lift equipped buses include the 8600's Gilligs, along with all buses beginning with 2000. List does not include some buses furnished by contract operators, mostly motor coaches and school buses. List also does not include most paratransit vehicles, some of which are also used on certain fixed routes.

Carpenter buses 7150-7169 were CTA 150-169, acquired for the paratransit operations.

PACE BUS ASSIGNMENTS

Information on Pace bus assignments is difficult to obtain. But good information has been obtained for a couple of years.

SUBURBAN BUSES OF THE PAST

Above roster includes buses purchased by the RTA in the late 1970's, and retired in 1993. Also included are buses purchased by other public agencies in the early 1970's, most of which eventually were repainted for and operated by Pace.

Bus Rosters on the Web - Link to historic rosters of various Pace predecessors, along with links to other bus roster sites. Those rosters, along with this roster, provide an almost complete picture of the buses operated in Chicago's suburbs.

Buses 100-104 and 200-213 were originally acquired by the Joliet Mass Transit District, with those numbers.

Buses 146-165 were originally acquired by the village of Oak Lawn for the Suburban Transit System, with those numbers.

Buses 401-474 were originally acquired by Nortran, with those numbers.

Buses 701-755 were originally acquired by the Chicago South Suburban Mass Transit District for use by South Suburban Safeway Lines, with those numbers, and were later extensively renovated. Those buses ended up with CTA in 1994, when CTA needed additional buses to temporarily replace the elevated Green Line during renovation. They were repainted by CTA, retaining the same numbers, and retired in 1996.

Buses 761-766 were acquired by Nortran for the village of Wilmette, with those numbers, for its "Wilbus" routes, now Pace routes 421-423.

Buses 1040-1043 were originally acquired by the Elgin Department of Transportation, with those numbers.
