BURLINGTON NORTHERN SANTA FE

Aurora Subdivision

Line was originally the Chicago Burlington and Quincy main line to St. Paul, Minnesota. North of Savanna, the line runs along the Mississippi River the entire distance to St. Paul. Regular passenger service was discontinued over this line with the formation of Amtrak in 1971. But this line occasionally sees excursion trains, along with occasional detours of Amtrak's Empire Builder when the regular Milwaukee route cannot be used.
