In North Carolina and South Carolina, many transit systems eventually became part of Duke Power Co., which continued to operate some of these bus systems into the 1990's, and continues to provide electricity to the area. South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. also operated two transit systems, with Columbia the last US city to have a utility operated transit system, until 2002.
