TRANSIT SYSTEMS IN NEW JERSEY
PRESENT AND PAST
ORGANIZED BY METROPOLITAN AREAS AND COUNTIES
A small urban Northeastern state, which is appropriately supportive of public transportation.
By 1928, most local public transportation in New Jersey was part of a single system. In that year, the Public Service Railway Co. was renamed Public Service Coordinated Transport. That company was a subsidiary of Public Service Corp. of New Jersey, later Public Service Electric & Gas Co., providing those utilities throughout New Jersey. Public Service Coordinated Transport was renamed Transport of New Jersey in 1971, and in 1980 became the state owned New Jersey Transit.
