Math Coach, Deanna Hurn
"Life is 10 percent of what happens to you and 90 percent of how you react to it."
As a
professional speaker, math coach and gifted psalmist Deanna Hurn is a
total package of inspiration. Her life is a story of trial and
triumph which underlines a compelling message of hope despite
obstacles. Possessing a consuming passion to awaken ambition and
dreams, Deanna endeavors to inspire all to embrace their challenges
as an opportunity of self-improvement.
Deanna was
born in Arkansas but was raised in California where she pursued her
education. Her ultimate goal was to become an Actuary but an
unplanned pregnancy forced her to take a short leave out of school
while pursuing a degree in mathematics at Sacramento City College (SCC).
Determined not to become another statistic, Deanna returned to school
seven months pregnant. Understanding the difficult responsibility of
being a new mother and wife, Deanna developed a plan of
self-discipline to balance both school and family and later graduated
from SCC in 2004 with an A.S. degree in Mathematics.
In 2005 Deanna transferred to UC Santa Barbara. While
attending UCSB Deanna became the President of the Actuary Club and
grew the club by 60% by reorganizing the club and motivating students
majoring in math to pursue a degree in Actuarial Science. Her
Presidency and ability to network so well brought her several job
offers before she graduated. After only one year at UCSB Deanna
graduated with honors, and was the only African American student
to receive a degree in Actuarial Science in 2006.
Life Changing Experience
Soon after
graduation, Deanna accepted a job as an Actuary at a prominent firm.
However, she felt unfulfilled; the one thing she had dreamed of for
so long did not satisfy her. She attended a Les Brown's Speaker
Training Summit and received overwhelmingly positive responses after
speaking before Les and his staff.
The conference was a major pivotal point in her life which
ignited a passion to inspire others to never give up on their dreams.
Since then Deanna has refocused her career to become an accomplished
entrepreneur at 25, owning her own business, DHurn Enterprises. Her
objective is to challenge individuals to maximize their full
potential in life and never allow circumstances to dictate their
future. Her captivating insight has provided numerous occasions to
speak at various conferences, workshops and summits nationwide. Her
passionate delivery is fused with precision and excitement,
initiating effective change in the personal, spiritual and
professional lives of many.
"You
don't have to be great to get started but you have to get started to
be great." - Les Brown
